It's no different from Illinois. I happen to live in a US House district that was under the fat-*** control of Henry Hyde for decades...but in 2018 this district went blue for US House Rep. Sean Casten, and blue again in 2020. It will be blue once more this November. But get too far away from Chicago or East St. Louis...and it's dark red for the duration.
Where I live, it's strong union country.
You don't really know anyone's politics until you start talking to them.
I have found it to be about half and half.
